16 Months

Hunter Cole,

...you are 16 months old!

...you were still hanging out around 20 lbs when I took you for your 15 month check up.

...you have 3/4 of your molars, but still no eye teeth.

...obviously you are still in the same clothes and diapers, but you've worked your way up to a size 5 shoe.

...speaking of shoes...you LOVE them.  Like want to have a pair on all the time, cry if we don't put them on you.  It's rather entertaining.  You can put your croks on all by yourself so we leave those out to play with most of the time.

...you have a good vocabulary.  I can't even being to count how many words you say, but I bet its well into the hundreds.

...you can name several animals...cow, horse, dog, fish, bear, deer, duck, elephant, just off of the top of my head.

...you love to learn.  You are always bringing me your flashcards or books wanting to read!

...you are a busy boy, always on the go.  You still prefer to be outside.  You love to slide and play in your car.  You also love to ride the 4wheeler.  We know you are ready to ride because you'll just start saying "ride, ride, ride."

...you are now sleeping in your bed (which we have converted to a toddler bed) in our room.  A couple of nights you slept until 4 am before waking up, but your teeth have been bothering you, so you are all outta wack again.

...you are still eating pretty well.  You love chicken and sausage.  You usually have a cup of milk at bedtime, naptime, and in the morning when you wake up.  You are finally drinking out of different kinds of cups and don't really have a preference anymore.

...we are still doing mostly dairy free.  We tried to give it to you and your skin started getting rough again so we've stopped for the most part.  We let you have things here and there, just not all the time.

...you love all things with wheels.  You will sit and drive your car, train, motorocycle, etc up and down our legs as long as we will let you.  You usually have something like that in your hands saying "brmmm, brmmm."

...I signed you up to go to "school" 1 day per week about 1 month ago.  You have only been twice but you seem to love it.  You hollar swing, slide when we pull in.  You seem to love playing with the other kids and your teachers just loves you.

...Mommy and Daddy love you to pieces!

14 Months

Hunter Cole,

...you are 14 months old

...you weigh 21.6 lbs.  I still haven't measured how tall you are, but you are noticeably taller.

...you still have 8 teeth.

...you are starting to grow out of your 6-12 month pjs and pants.  However, I bought you some 12-18 month jeans at Gap and they fall off of you.

...your appetite has really increased this month.  You are eating so much and will eat almost anything.  Hopefully, you will grow!  At this point, we are doing no dairy.  We have tried tons of things to see if it helps with your eczema and no dairy has seemed to work best.

...you are still sleeping in the bed with us, but sleeping much better.  Hopefully we will begin to transition you to your own bed soon!

...you LOVE milk (almond milk.)  You will only drink it out of 1 specific type of cup.  We have tried every other type of cup and you want nothing to do with them.

...you are using your fork more and more.  You can get the food to your mouth if its on the fork, but if you have a spoon you turn it upside down before you get it to your mouth.  However, you prefer to hold your for in your right hand and shovel food in your mouth with your left.

...speaking of left hand, you use it most often so I'm thinking you may be a lefty.

...you still LOVE to be outside.  You push your little red car everywhere and you are starting to play with your water table more and more.

...you have finally figured out how to make your 4-wheeler go, but you haven't figured out how to steer.  You will go from the kitchen to the living room over and over if we will turn you around.

...this month has been so much fun.  You are really starting to learn so much.  You know where eyes, nose, ears, mouth, teeth, tongue, and belly are.  You love your ears and are constantly pulling at them and saying ears.  If you are finding my ear, you HAVE to make sure you touch both of them and say ears!

...you think everything is blue.  It doesn't matter what color something is, if we ask you, you always say blue.

...same goes with animal sounds, everything says nay-nay to you.

...all vehicles make the same noise to you also.  If you pick up a 4-wheeler, truck, or motorcycle you will stay brmm, brmm.  It's too cute.  You are continuing to twist the throttle on everything you get on with a handle.  Hopefully you will be able to ride your strider bike soon.

...you are such a talker.  You are constantly saying new words.  I have tried to make a list of the words you are frequently saying, but I KNOW I've left many out.

baby, backpack, ball, banana, bite, blue, book, butt, chance, deer, ears, eat, green, map, milk, momma, no, nose, red, ride, spoon, uh-oh, yellow

...you said your 1st 2 words together...ALL GONE!  You also say things like A BALL and HOLD ME.

13 Months

Hunter Cole,

...you are 13 months old.

...you have 8 teeth.

...you are just around 20lbs, no clue how tall you are.

...12-18 month clothes, mostly.  You need 9-12 month shorts, or smaller.

...you are walking everywhere.  You are so independent and do not like/want to be held.  It takes multiple people to keep up with you when we go to the mx races because you are everywhere.  You are finally starting to have better balance.  You were a very clumsy boy for a while.

...you jibber jabber all the time!  Your favorite words are deer, ear, eat, uh oh, and ball.  You purposely throw things down just to say uh oh.  You have discovered the deer this month and you love to point at it and say deee.

...you are already a dare devil.  You love to get on the seat of your 4-wheeler, stand up, and let go.  You also love to stand up by yourself in chairs.  You have fallen multiple times, but it doesn't phase you.

...you know where your ears, teeth, and tongue are.  You LOVE your ears.  You pull on them all the time, put your hands over them, and play with them when you are falling asleep.

...speaking of sleep, you have officially taken over our bed.  But we are going to have to fix that.  I can't get any sleep with you in the bed with us.  You are all over me, usually busting my lip.

...you continue to LOVE to be outside and you get so mad when we bring you in.

...I took you swimming at Nana's twice this past week.  It takes you quite a while to get used to the water.  You don't love it, that's for sure.  You finally got comfortable enough that you would let me put you down on the steps and you would play.  You are afraid of floats.  I have NO CLUE what made you scared of them, but you start screaming and shaking every time someone gets one close to you.  Your Aunt Cole actually uses one on the end of her porch to keep you from trying to get down.  You start swimming lessons at the end of this month...should be interesting.  We put you in the lake for the 1st time last weekend and you HATED it.  You were already in a really crabby mood, so I'm hoping that had something to do with it.

...you will eat almost anything.  Blueberries are the only thing you've spit out.  You love milk and would drink 10 glasses per day if we would let you.  You are very particular about your cup and almost won't drink out of anything else.

...you love to push things...your 4-wheeler, your cozy couple, your tricycle.  Basically anything with wheels.  You get so mad when someone tries to help you.

...you think anything with handle bars has a twist throttle like a motorcycle.  Everyone says you are destined to ride dirt bikes.  I'm still not sure how I feel about that.  You get on your 4-wheeler and your strider bike and start twisting the grip, EVERY TIME.

1 Year

Hunter Cole,

...I cannot believe I am writing your one year post.  You have grown so fast.

...you are 19 lbs &11 oz and 28 inches tall, both around the 10th percentile.  You are a tiny little guy!

...you are still wearing the same size clothes and diapers.  9-12 and 12-18 month clothes and size 3 diapers.

...you have 7 teeth.  This month you gained a new one on the bottom right.  Now you have 4 on top, 3 on bottom.

...you are walking everywhere.  You are almost a full time walker.  You haven't quite figured out how to walk in your shoes, but you are doing great otherwise.

...you are still eating 3 meals per day, plus snacks.  Your diet has really changed this month though.  You are drinking whole, organic cows milk and are eating gluten free.  I started the gluten free to see if it makes a difference with your skin...I still haven't determined if it makes much of a difference, but I'm so glad we made the switch.  It has forced me to feed you much healthier.  You love most fruits and veggies.  Also, you love white cheddar puffs.  When you get hungry you come to us and say eat, eat, eat!

...you are all boy.  You love to be outside and if anyone goes out without taking you, you throw the biggest fit.  You will sit and play in the gravels all day if we would let you.  However, you aren't crazy about the way the grass feels on your skin.  You love to ride the 4-wheeler and RZR.

...you are still being shy, but warming up to people much quicker.  You are having quite a bit of seperation anxiety this month.  You scream any time I (or your Aunt Cole) get out of your sight.

...you are still talking quite a bit and you are repeating a lot.  You still love Dora and have said Dora a couple of times.  You will say "map" and your daddy says you have said "backpack."  You're other favorite word is shit.  Yes, I know that's not what you are trying to say, but we still haven't figured out what you are actually saying.

...you love your Aunt Cole.  She's about the only person you will directly go to if I am holding you.  I love to watch her with you, she loves you so much and she is so good with  you.  You are one very lucky little boy to have her as your Aunt.

...you "call the dog" anytime we are around a dog.  You have been doing this for a couple of months, but I kept forgetting to put it in your post.

...you know where your ears are and pull at them all the time.  You will also find everyone else's nose.  We are working on eyes and mouth.

...your Uncle Michael taught you how to hold your hands up and twist your hands like you are riding a motorcycle.  It is so funny to watch you do.

...you are starting to get the hang of pushing the button on your little 4-wheeler to make it go.  You still don't know how to steer, but you're finally getting it to move, without pushing it.

1st Birthday Inspiration.

I'm in full party planning mode.  I can't believe that Hunter will be 1 year old in less than a month.  It blows my mind.

I wanted to share some of my inspiration photos...

I have a thing for aqua and orange.  Hunter's room is decorated with those colors.  I'm not really a theme person, so we don't have one...ha!  I designed his invitations today and I think they turned out pretty good...especially considering I had never designed anything like that before.

11 months....

Hunter Cole,

...you are 11 months old.

...you weight 18 lbs and 10 oz, i'm not sure how tall you are but you look like you've grown some.

...you are still wearing mostly 6-12 month clothing.  You can wear some 12-18 month shirts.  You are still in a size 3 diaper.

...you still have 6 teeth.  I'm expecting you to get some more any time.  You have been cranky for the past couple of days, so I'm wondering if this is why.

...you are so close to walking.  You took your 1st step on March 23rd.  You have done it a few times since.  You will let go and stand unassisted if you aren't thinking about it.  You just need a little courage and you'll be walking everywhere.  However, I'm not pushing you, as I'm not ready for you to walk yet.

...you are eating 3 meals and day and then you also have snacks at times.  You love veggie cheetos and gold fish.  You will eat almost anything.  You love to try to feed yourself with the spoon and have starting trying to "feed" mommy and daddy.  You will share your food and bottle with us.  We are mostly done nursing.  You will nurse 1-2 times per day, but I think it's more for comfort than anything.  You are on soy milk right now, but I think we may have to change because it seems to be bothering your belly.

...you have turned into quite the shy guy lately.  Anytime anyone (who you don't know) talks to you, you will lay your head on my shoulder.

...you are babbling away.  You said momma for the 1st time on March 28th when we were out to dinner at Wild Wings.  Your other words include: dada, bite, nana, uh-oh, hey, and cole.  You also said peek-a-boo clear as day the other night, but we haven't been able to get you to say it again.

...you had your Easter pictures made this month.  They turned out so good.  You were quite the ham for the camera.  And you loved the bunnies and chicks, however, you weren't very nice to the.  You were constantly pulling on the bunnies ears and picking the chicks up by their wings and head.

...you started sleeping through the night on March 17th.  You slept well for about 1 week and then we had to break your routine.  So for now, we are back to being up 1-2 per night.

...you love to be outside.  If you are fussy, we can usually go outside and you will immediately calm down.  At first, you weren't sure what to think of the grass, so you would't move.  But you've gotten over that and you're crawling everywhere outside now.

...you also love to "ride"...the 4-wheeler, in the jeep, and on the rzr.

...you are quite the momma's boy right now.  You are constantly at my feet and most of the time you want me to hold you.

...you love the itzy bitzy spider and the abc's.

...you are always on the move and HATE when we have to change your diaper.  You get so mad and try to crawl away.

Our Atlanta Ikea experience!

Ikea, for us is a 3-4 hour drive.  We needed new bedroom furniture, but we aren't ready to get a king size bed yet.  We know when we build a house that we want a king size bed in our bedroom so we decided to get our bedroom furniture from ikea for now.  Eventually it will be used in a guest bedroom and we will get something a little more durable for our bedroom.  I had looked at the Hemnes line in the store last year and knew that I liked the way it looked.  One of my friends has the chest and she loves it.  I got online and read the reviews for it, most of them were pretty good.

I was scheduled to work Friday night, but I got put on call.  I knew I wasn't going to have another chance to go without having to risk missing one of Logan's races so I decided to go ahead and go.  I never thought much about it being Easter weekend and a Saturday.  Mom came down to go with me.  We took Alan's truck.  I had no idea if the whole bedroom suit would fit in the truck, but I was hopeful.

Once we got there, we looked through the whole store.  I had only been one other time and we didn't buy much and didn't purchase any large items, so I wasn't exactly prepared for the warehouse experience.  After shopping for quite a while and getting all the number/isles/bins wrote down we made our way to the warehouse.  I had checked the website before we left to make sure they had the items in stock.  They will ship, but it cost over $300.

As I got into the warehouse and started looking for the stuff we needed, we quickly found out most everything I wanted was sold out.  I asked several different employees if I had any other options since I had driven so far.  Basically all of them said "no."  They explained that Saturday was their busiest day and that all of their inventory was on the floor.  They told me to talk to customer service, see when the item would be back in stock, and then drive back to get it.  I was so frustrated.

We ended up finding the mirror, nightstands and the chest.  We just needed the dresser and the bed.  I found box 2 & 3 to the dresser but box 1 was no where to be found.  Mom suggested I got back and talk to customer service and ask if they would sell a display.  When I got to the desk, I explained the situation to the man who was working.  He quickly and polietly told me that they had put more beds out but there just weren't in the right spot.  He took me straight to them.  After that, I asked him about the dresser.  He told me to stand of to the side of the desk and wait.  I waited for a while.  He had went to help other customers and I was beginning to think he had forgot about me, went on break, left work, etc.  Then the other guy working got a phone call, looked at me, and told me to go to isle 25.

He had found the dresser!!!  They had a whole pallet of them but no one had gotten them down.  I was so relieved and excited!  I thanked him a million times and then went on to tell his boss how wonderful he was.  I'm not sure why everyone else told me the items were completely out of stock, but thankful I didn't get in and just kept asking.

So, here are my tips for shopping at Ikea....for 1st time shoppers!

1.  Don't go on SATURDAY.  They told me that was the worst day of the week.  It was very crowded while we are there.

2.  If you are making a long trip, call before you go to make sure they have the item in stock.  At that time, you can ask them to hold the item for you (if it's during the week.)

3.  If the store is crowded, don't spend too much time browsing or you may risk one of your items selling out.  You could also go as soon as they open if you want to spend a lot of time shopping.

4.  Take someone, preferably a man with you.  They do not have designated employees to assist you with loading.  Me and my mom managed okay, but it would have been nice to have some more muscles.

5.  Eat before you go into the store.  It is HUGE!  You will spend more time in the store than you think and will be starving while you shop.  They do have a cafeteria, but I haven't tried their food.

Easter 2013

Hunter had a great 1st Easter.  His Nana spent the night with us, so he got to spend some quality time with her today.  She gave him M&M's for the 1st time and he loved them...definitely getting better at using his pincher grasp.

He spent most of the morning playing before we got him ready to go to Granny's for dinner.  Right before we left, I let him get into his Easter basket.  He really loved the stacking rings the most.  He has some at his Nana's that he plays with when he is there.

We hadn't let him nap all day, so he took a good nap on the way to Granny's.  He was in such a good mood the whole time we were there and ate like a little pig!  He will eat anything!  I'm hoping he continues to eat so well.  We let him hunt eggs with Bubby and Logan.  Of course, he had no clue what he was doing.  He just liked to shake them.

After the egg hunt, I had to leave him with Nicole because I was supposed to work.  They put me on call so Alan and I have spent the afternoon putting together so of our furniture from ikea.

Here's a breakdown of what was in Hunter's basket.

Fisher Price stackable rings

Jellycat bunny
I had his initials monogrammed on the bunny's ear.  This was my favorite thing in his basket.  The bunny is soo soft!

I couldn't find the exact picture of the cup I got him, but it's similar to this, but yellow.  It came from target.

Spoons similar to this.  These are actually the boon spoons, but I picked up some at wal-mart that look almost identical.

Hunter LOVES Dora.

Wooden cars from Ikea.

1st Step and STTN

Hunter took his 1st step on Saturday, March 23rd.  He was standing up next to the couch at Nicole and Michaels, let go and took one step toward me!  I didn't really think anything about it until today when he did it again, except opposite.  He was standing up, holding onto my leg, let go, and took one step to the couch.  I know it'll still be a while before he's walking, but I'm so not ready for it.  I can't believe my little guy is growing up so much.

He has also been STTN for about a week.  Obviously, this is a big deal for us.  He did it 1st on St. Patty's Day (March 17th.)  I actually worked that night and thought it might be a fluke.  He slept really well up until about 2 1/2 months, then his sleep just got progressively worse.  I think it had a lot to do with no routine and staying away from home a lot.  We stayed at moms and Nicole's a lot and he NEVER had a set bedtime.  Once we started staying home and got him used to going to be at 9, it didn't take long at all.  We actually stayed at Nicole's this weekend and once again, he slept horrible.  Hoping that this will eventually get better.

I can't believe I'm already planning his 1st birthday party.  Seems like just yesterday we were bringing him home from the hospital and sleeping in the living room with him.  My baby is getting so big :(.

Valentine Day/9 Month Pictures

I'm so, so thankful we have been able to have Hunter's pictures taken as often as we have.  These are his 9 month/Valentines Day pics and I love them all so much!

10 Months...

Hunter Cole,

...I cannot believe I am writing your 10 month post.  You will be one year old in just two short months.  I feel like it was just yesterday that we brought you home from the hospital.

...You are 18 1/2 lbs, not sure about your height.

...You are still wearing mostly 6-12 month clothes, some 6-9 and some 12 month stuff.  It varies.  Still in size 3 diapers, but in cloth when we are home.

...You haven't been sick anymore since your hospital stay, thank goodness.  I've tried to keep you home more in hopes that we prevent any more sickness.  It's hard to stay home all the time though, you get stir crazy just like I do.

...No new teeth this month, still 4 on top and 2 on bottom.  You are constantly trying to bite me and everyone else.  I tell you no, but you just smile at me.  I'm hoping you grow out of this soon.

...Still crawling everywhere and pulling up on everything.  You are starting to let go while standing up for a VERY brief second.  You love to push your 4-wheeler everywhere.  You also do pretty good pushing your walk behind toys everywhere in the house.

...You had your 1st Valentines Day this month.  We got you a cars 4-wheeler, a book, and a couple of onesies.

...You haven't been back to MDO, but will go next week.  I kept you home after the hospital for 2 weeks and then/now it was fall break.  I think it's good for you to be around other kids your age.

...you are still patty caking.  You will also roll 'em up and throw them in the pan, but we never can get you to do it all together.  You are also waving, but only when you want to.  Sometimes I can get you to point to my nose when I ask you where it's at, other times you aren't interested.

...you still love Dora.  It actually blows my mind how much you love her show.  You will sit perfectly still and watch it the entire 30 minutes if I let you.  I try to limit the amount of TV you watch per day, usually I don't like you to watch more than one show because you also watch TV in the car.

...You are eating  3 solid meals per day and still nursing several times.  I have just started trying to wean you some.  I would like to get to 2-3 nursing sessions per day and the rest bottle/sippy cup.  You eat everything we eat.  You had cake for Kelsie's birthday and it made you so hyper. You didn't go to bed until after 11 that night.  Logan also gave you your 1st chocolate chip cooking and you ate every bit of it.

...You still are not sleeping through the night.  You are up 2-5 times per night usually.  It's rough, but luckily I can nap with you during the day.  You are starting to take longer naps...1 to 1 1/2 hours instead of 40min!

...You spent time with Nana, Poppy, Logan, Nicole, Aunt Lisa, Samantha, Aunt Joann and Brittany this month.  You were also away from me from Wednesday around 1 until Friday morning.  That was the longest time we had been apart.  I was scheduled to work Wednesday and Thursday night and Aunt Cole kept you at Nana's.  I missed you like crazy, but know that it's okay for you to be away from me some.

...Your daddy has been working away this month, so he's been gone all week.  Thankfully, he's back home most nights now.

...We got you a tricycle that we can push and you love to ride it.  We spent about 45 minutes on it the other day while Daddy rotated his tires.

...You say Da-Da all the time.  I've also heard you say Nana, Momma, and uh-oh.  Da-da is definitely your favorite though.

...You love to play with Jordan and Logan.  You will spend all day chasing them if they will let you.

...You got your 1st boo-boo.  I came home from work Friday morning and you had a scratch under your right eye.  Daddy had put you in the bed with him and you woke up, he didn't.  He thinks you reached for the nightstand, hit the corner of it and then fell off the bed.  Good think Momma wasn't here, because I would have been a hot mess.  Although, you did fall off the bed with me only a few weeks before that.  We were spending the night at Aunt Cole's and you were sleeping in the bed with me, pushed off of my side and fell off the bed on your head.  You cried for 2.5 seconds and then went right back to sleep.  Poor guy, I know there are many more bumps and bruises to come.

Presidents Day 2013

Today I took Logan to the art mill to paint. He painted a Lego ninjago, his favorite. Nicole, Hunter and I walked around town and did some shopping while he was painting. After that, we went to the park to ride his bike but it was soo windy! So we did a little shopping and had lunch with Alan before heading home.

I let hunter take a late/long nap...from 530 to 800, so he's wide awake and I'm prepared for a long night.

9 Months

Hunter Cole,

...you are 9 months old.

...you weigh 17 lbs and are 26 1/4 inches long.

...you are still wearing a size 3 diaper and 6-9 month clothes.

...you had your 1st hospital stay this month.  You were scheduled for you 9 month check up on Friday the 8th.  You had been getting sick and I tried to get you an appointment on Thursday but they weren't able to get you in.  By the time Friday morning came around, you were retracting and your respiratory rate was increased.  You were so tired from trying hard to breath.  I knew that they doctor would probably admit you.  Luckily, we were only in the hospital for 1 night.  You were positive for RSV but a couple of breathing treatments fixed you right up.  Now you are on them at home every 2-4 hours.

...you now have 6 teeth.  4 on the top and 2 on the bottom.  You love to bite and are constantly trying to bite my shoulder and my toes!

...you are crawling everywhere and you are SO fast.  It is so funny to watch you crawl.  You make a beeline for the refrigerator every time the door opens.  You also crawl to me every time I come in the door if I've been away from you, talk about melting a momma's heart!

...you are pulling up on everything and are walking behind push toys.  I still think it will be a while before you are walking but everyone else thinks you will walk soon.

...you went to your 1st day of MDO on the 31st.  Momma did not want to leave you, but I know that it will be good for you to get to spend time with other kids.  Your director sent me pictures of you throughout the day, so that made me feel better.  I only left you for 4 hours.  You went twice this month.  You don't cry when I leave you, which makes it easier on me.

...we had your 9month pictures made on the 4th, can't wait to see all of them!

...you started clapping/playing patty cake on the 8th.  I expected it to be a while before you learned how to do that because you hate for us to mess with your hands and you have always refused to let us patty cake with you.  But Nana was holding you when you were in the hospital and she asked you if you could do it and you started clapping away.  I thought it was just a coincidence but you continue to do it.

...you love, love, love Dora the Explorer.  We have to turn it on to get you to sit still while we do your breathing treatments.  You also recognize the words to the songs, so if we sing them, you will look at the TV.

...you are eating 2-3 meals a day and you basically eat anything we eat.  You have gotten better about eating baby food, but we try to only give it to you when we are on the go.

...you are still getting 1-2 bottles of formula per day.  You are nursing several times a day.  You will drink Harvest (apple, carrot, mango) juice, but you are not interested in any other juice.  You also, aren't crazy about sippy cups.  We have tried about every brand and you just don't care for them.

CIO...AKA cry it out!

Before I was pregnant I thought the crying wouldn't bother me.  I have been around kids my whole life.  My mom owned a daycare, we had foster children, etc.  I have always LOVED children, but the crying never got to me, never bothered me....until I had my own.

Prior to his vaccines at 2.5 months old, Hunter slept great.  This was also before he really started spending the night at other places also.  We had a bedtime routine-bath, lotion, swaddle, bottle and then we would put him down AWAKE...and he would go to sleep on his own.  We thought we had it mastered, but he had other plans.

Like I said, somewhere around the 2.5 months he started waking up more frequently during the night.  I didn't think much of it and would nurse him back to sleep.  I thought eventually it would get better.  It slowly got WORSE.  We had tried everything, swaddle, non swaddle, white noise, country music, bedtime routine, putting him down earlier, putting him down later, sleeping in a pack n play in our room, sleeping in the rock n play sleeper.  Nothing seemed to work.  We even tried co-sleeping which Alan was adamantly against.  He also had eczema so we couldn't do a bath every night, so his nighttime routine had changed a bit.

We had contemplated CIO, a couple of times, but I just wasn't ready.  I knew that in the end, overall, he would end up crying less because he was so, so fussy and hard to get down for naps and bedtime.  I just couldn't stand the thought of letting him cry.  On his 8 month bday, Alan and I discussed getting into more of a routine, always having him home by 8 to start the routine and then down in crib at 8.  I said we would do it for 10 days and then begin trying to get him to fall asleep on his own.  Alan wanted to change it to 7 days, but I refused.

However, that night Hunter woke up at 12:35am.  We had finally got him down around 9:30 after lots of singing, bouncing, rocking, feeding, etc.  This was actually a good stretch of sleep for him at the time because he had been getting up hourly during the night.  I went in his room and nursed him.  He fell asleep and I put him in his crib.  The moment I tried to lay him down, he woke up screaming.  I picked him up and repeated the process.  Nurse, asleep, crib.  He woke up screaming again, as soon as I laid him down.  I did this one more time, and something inside me clicked.  I thought, he has to learn to sleep.

So, I shut his door, and went back to our bedroom.  I decided I would go in at 15 minutes.  It was very hard for me to hear him cry, but I knew it was best for him.  We had tried everything else.  I went in at 15 minutes, picked him up, calmed him down and then put him back in his crib and told him it was time to go night-night.  I decided I would go back in at 20 minutes if he was still crying.  He was, so after 20 minutes I repeated the process and decided I would go back at 30 minutes if he was still crying.

After 28 minutes he started to stop crying.  He was on his belly and just whining a bit, so at 30 minutes I did not go back in.  This was a long process and lasted until 2:35 when he finally fell back asleep.  He was back up around 4:30, I nursed him and put him back down.  He cried again.  I went in at 30 minutes and he fell asleep before I needed to go back in (he cried right at an hour that time.)

The next day, we put him down for naps the same way and have continued the same process at bedtime.  I was napping for work during nap time the 2nd day and was at work for bedtime the 2nd night.  Alan put him down and said he cried about 30 minutes but slept from 9 until 4:45, which is huge for him.  The 3rd night he cried about the same but was up more frequently.  We stuck with it and continued to put him down awake.  He has been sleeping great ever since.  He goes down for naps pretty easy, usually whining less than 5 minutes.  Bed time takes a bit longer, normally around 20 minutes.

He doesn't really cry anymore, just stands in his bed and hollers.  I wanted to document this in case I need to come back and reference when we have our next child.  I was so scared of doing CIO.  I worried that he would cry for hours and hours and not ever go to sleep.  Now, I wish we would have done it sooner.

Prior to doing this, Hunter was usually whiney.  He didn't crawl and he never pulled up on things.  When trying to get him to go to sleep, he would pinch, scratch, grab, and swat whatever was near him.  He was always so restless.  It was getting really hard for me to nurse him because he would hurt me with all the pinching and hitting.

After a few nights of good sleep, I'm happy to report, he is crawling everywhere, pulling up, and is much less restless.  Overall, he's a much happier and playful baby.  Nursing is much easier than it previously had been and momma and daddy are much less stressed and rested better so we have more energy and patience.

8 MONTHS

Hunter Cole,

...you are 8 months old.

...you weigh a little over 16 lbs, but I'm still not sure how tall you are.  You spent the better part of this month sick and so I'm hoping you will gain a little more weight soon!

...you are in 6-9 month clothes.  3-6 month jeans are too short but 6-9 are too big around the waist.

...size 3 diapers

...like I mentioned, you were sick for most of this month.  It started on December 3rd with wheezing and I took you to the doctor.  We were back on a weekly basis (sometimes twice a week) until the Saturday before Christmas.  You had 5 different abx, 2 different respiratory treatments, and one does of an oral steroid before you finally got better.  You had a checkup on Jan 2nd to make sure everything had cleared up.  Doctor said you were good to go!  You had to go to the ENT on January 9th.  They didn't feel like you need tubes yet...yah!

...you cut your 3rd and 4th tooth this month...your top middle ones.

...exactly on your 8 month birthday you started officially crawling and pulling up!  You had been scooting around some and had pulled up a couple of times, but you are now doing it consistently.  The 1st time I got you to craw, you were trying to get my phone.  I actually managed to get it on video with the video camera!!!

...we started CIO on the 10th.  You had been getting up every hour at night and since the doctor said you were healthy we decided to go ahead and give it a try.  The 2nd night you slept great!  Hopefully the trend will continue.  This is when you learned to pull up.  When we put you in the bed, you will pull up and stand.  You still haven't figured out how to sit down and you have fallen a couple of times and have some little bruises on your head :(

...you are eating everything....EXCEPT baby food.  We basically give you whatever we are eating in small pieces and you eat it up.  But you do not like baby food and basically refuse to eat it.

...I think you have some separation anxiety going on.  Every time I leave the room, you will wine and cry until I come back.  If someone else is carrying you and I'm around you will lean and wine until I get you.

...I'm not sure if I have mentioned this before, but you have eczema.  It had gotten pretty bad and I was going to ask to see a dermatoligist at your 9 month check up, but your Aunt Cole found something that worked for you.  We are putting aquaphor on you with baby powder over top of it at night.  Your skin is MUCH better!

...you enjoyed Christmas.  We spent lots of time with family and everyone spoiled you rotten!  I think your favorite gift so far has been your leap frog table from your Aunt Cole. You also enjoy your dvd player from Nana and Poppy.

...you are still nursing but getting more formula these days.  Hopefully I can get my supply back up since I am off work for the next week, but if not you had breast milk for 8 months!

....you had a couple of visits from Hames this month and one from Mylee.  You guys are starting to notice one another and sometimes you take toys from one another.  It's quite entertaining.

...Yesterday (on your 8 month bday we met Kels and Hames at the park.  It was 70 degrees outside so we went for a long walk and then took you guys to swing.  I can't help but think it won't be long and we will be taking ya'll to the park and you will be running everywhere.

This month

...you spent the night with Tess for the 1st time on NYE, while we had a night out.

...Brit kept you for about an hour, while I went to the doctor.

...We spent the night with your Pa Wayne for the 1st time.

...We spent a couple of nights at Nana and Poppys.

...Daddy took you riding on the creek in the jeep.  He put your car seat in the front seat and said you loved it.

...you were back at the mx tracks.  The dirt bikes don't seem to both you at all.

...you went of your 1st dirt bike ride with Uncle Micheal.  He put you in your carrier and away ya'll went.  You seemed to like it.

...you LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my phone.  If you are upset, I can usually get you to calm down with it.

New Years Resolutions...

I'm not sure about you but, I never stick with my New Years Resolutions.  This year I may try to post goals each month.  At the end (or beginning) of each month I will review the previous months goals and post new ones.  Here are my goals for January.

-blog at least 2 times a week, some non Hunter related posts also

-get a blog design

-exercise at least 4 times this month.  I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but it's better than nothing.

-cook an actual meal (not pizza from a box or take out) 2-3 times per week.

-read a book.

-make another quilt.

-start cutting shirts for Hunter's t-shirt quilt.

-have breakfast/dinner with friends

-take more pictures of Hunter with my "good camera"

Christmas 2012

Hunter's 1st Christmas was a success.  We had a lot of places to go, but luckily it was spread out over several days.

It started on Friday night when we had a Christmas Party to go to at Brandon's.  We left Hunter with his Aunt Lisa because sometimes things get a bit crazy there.  We had a good time but were gone pretty early.  Hunter opened his 1st Christmas gift, from Lisa.  He actually did better than I thought.  He mostly wanted to eat the paper though.

Saturday, we had Christmas at my Mom's.  We always do our Christmas there on the Saturday before Christmas.  We were there most of the day.  Hunter got passed around a lot and received lots of gifts.  We had a good time and I really enjoy getting together with all my siblings.

Sunday, was a nice day at home.  I was scheduled to work but got low census so we had a nice evening together at home.

Christmas Eve, we went to Pa Wayne's to spend the night.  Pa was so excited to give Hunter his gifts.  We really had a great evening there and were so glad we got to spend the night with him.  Christmas morning Alan and Pa cooked us breakfast.  After we eat, we packed everything up, went home, and got ready to go to Granny's for dinner.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE going to my Granny's for Christmas dinner.  It's my favorite thing to do at Christmas.  Our family isn't super close, but you can bet your bottom that we always stand up for one another and we're always there if we need each other.  We have been playing dirty santa there for a few years now and it's always a lot of fun!

After we left Granny's, we went to Mom's to watch Logan open his gifts.  Mom had to work so he had to wait until Christmas evening to open his presents.  He got his 1st xbox 360, a halo edition.  I'm pretty sure Alan was a bit jealous.

Once we left there, we went to my Dad's to take Jackie his Christmas gift.  I got him a wheelbarrow, a log truck, and some clothes.  He's all boy!  Loves his tractors, going outside, and beating and banging on everything.  He's so sweet with Hunter and gives him "love" all the time.

Needless to say, it was late when we got home Christmas night.  We decided that we would do our Christmas the next morning.

Wednesday morning we let Hunter open his gifts and Alan and I exchanged our gifts.  We mostly knew what we had got for each other, but I did surprise him with Halo 4.  He also got some things for his jeep and a new drill.  I got a new pair of boots and a new hair dryer (t3 featherweight.)  Hunter got lots of small things....blocks, balls, etc.  We decided not to do anything BIG gifts for him this year because he has everything he needs!  We are going to get him his lifetime hunting license though.

7 Months

Hunter Cole,

...you are 7 months old.

...you weigh around 16 lbs but I have no clue how tall you are.

...you are in mostly 6-9 month clothes.

...size 3 diapers

...you got sick for the 1st time this month.  We still don't know exactly what was wrong with you but it lasted over 2 weeks, so far.

...you still aren't sleeping through the night, but you are getting better.  You also still don't like to nap, but some naps are getting longer.  I had hoped to have you on a schedule by now, but we run, run, run so that's not been possible.

...you aren't nursing as often but I really have no clue how many times a day/how long you go in between feedings.  I feed you when I think you are hungry.  We have given you lots of baby food and you like most of  it.  You love bananas.  You've also eaten LOTS of table food and I think you prefer it over baby food.  You aren't crazy about juice or anything other than milk.  We have introduced sippy cups, but you mostly chew on them.

...you are rolling everywhere and I think you will be crawling soon.  You get up on all fours and rock back and forth.  You are great about scooting backwards but haven't figured out how to go forward.

...you still only have 2 teeth, but I think you may get some more soon!  You are chewing on everything!

...you like to be put down and left alone a lot of times.  Your granny says you will sit and play with your feet for 15-30 minutes when she watches you in the mornings.  You truly make her day!

...you LOVE your Aunt Cole.  She watches you while I work and takes great care of you.  AND spoils you rotten!

This month...

...you went to your 1st dinner at Granny's.  It was Thanksgiving and you tried her dumplins for the 1st time!

...you "aunt" Tess has watched you a couple of times.

...Tosha came to visit us.

...you had your 1st Thanksgiving!

...Daddy went away for the 1st time (non work related.)  He went to Indianan hunting and we stayed with Nana and Poppy.

...we put up our Christmas decorations.  Daddy went all out this year because it's your 1st Christmas.  He is so excited about Christmas with you!

...you said dada for the 1st time on Nov. 27th.

...you reached for someone for the 1st time.  It was your Nana on Dec 3rd.

...you went to see Santa for the 1st time.  You weren't scared of him and didn't cry!
